Classmates collaborate on children's book Former area classmates have collaborated their talents in a new project.
Carol (Blair) Bye of Sun City, AZ, and Jeanette (Lewison) McFarling, Gretna, NE, graduated from Meckling High School in 1955. They have put their talents together by writing and illustrating a children's book about a local landmark. It is on the shelves just in time for Christmas.
Bye, the author, used a little different twist in the story about the moving of the Hubert's home in rural Vermillion. This is the fourth book that she has written for her grandchildren, but this is the first one she has published. She wanted to preserve some special memories for her grandchildren, who live in Vermillion and the surrounding areas, so she wrote these stories geared for the young at heart.
McFarling, illustrator, whose brothers still farm near Vermillion, is the owner of Jeanette's Art Studio in Gretna, NE. She teaches classes at her home studio which her husband and sons built for her. Several of her students have won national honors. When Bye needed an illustrator it was natural to turn to her life long friend.
The books are available for purchase at Ma & Pa's in Gayville, and the Index or Tigert's in Vermillion. They may also be ordered directly from the author by e-mailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
