Obituaries Rose Kozak
Rose A. Kozak, 87, of Estherville, IA and formerly of Tabor, died Tuesday evening Dec. 5, 2000 at Estherville.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 9, at Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Steve Iverson officiating. Burial was in the ZCBJ Cemetery, Tabor. Visitations were 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, with the family present at 7 p.m. in the fellowship room. Visitations resumed one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Rose was born on July 12, 1913 to Joseph B. and Anna (Bouska) Melicher in Tabor. She received her education from Tabor Public School. On Feb. 12, 1934, she married Laddie A. Kozak in Yankton. They lived in Wagner from 1933 to 1937 when they moved to Tabor until 1956. In 1956 they moved to Vermillion where she worked in the bakery and babysat.
In 1978, they moved to Spirit Lake, IA, where Rose spent her time babysitting her grandchildren. In the early 1980s Rose and Laddie moved to Estherville, IA, where she remained until her death. She was a member of the Church Of Christ, Estherville, and the Ladies Bible Study Group. She took great pride in making treats for her grandchildren and for the Sunday school children every week.
Rose is survived by two sons: DeWayne (Nyla) Kozak of LeMars, IA, and Laddie D. (ZoeAnn) Kozak of Estherville; and one daughter: Judeen K. (Gene) Petersen of Spirit Lake, IA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother: George Melichar of Tabor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Delores, four brothers: Bill, Jim, Joe and Emanuel Melichar; and two sisters: Ann Peterka and Marie Pidima.
Elizabeth 'Betty' Crew
Elizabeth "Betty" Crew, 83, Vermillion, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000 at Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospital.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at United Methodist Church of Vermillion, with Rev. Brook McBride officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home, Vermillion, was in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 10, 1917, at Wessington Springs, to P. Meade and Grace (Null) Beason. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from The University of South Dakota in 1939 and 1941.
She married Phillips B. Crew Aug. 11, 1940, at Wessington Springs. She taught one year at Hot Springs High School before her marriage. She had lived in Vermillion for the past 55 years. Her husband died Oct. 13, 1998.
She was a member of P.E.O., Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Vermillion.
She is survived by a son: Michael (Karen), Sioux Falls; two daughters: Mary (Jack) Smart and Margaret Crew, both of Vermillion; and one granddaughter, Amy Morgan Crew, Winter Park, FL.
Sandra Renner
Sandra Kaye (Luft) Renner was born Nov. 20, 1941, at Spearfish, the daughter of John and Zelda (Ellis) Luft. She attended school in Vermillion, and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1959. After high school she attended one year of undergraduate studies at The University of South Dakota.
On Dec. 8, 1963, Sandy was married to Daryl F. Renner at Vermillion. They made their home on a farm southeast of Sibley, IA, where they lived their entire married life. In June of 1985, Sandy started working as a bank teller. She worked full-time until 1994, when she cut back to part-time as a bank teller at First Bank of Sibley. During her bank teller career she had also worked for two years in Sioux Falls.
In her spare time, Sandy enjoyed quilting, reading and doing crafts. She took wonderful care of her houseplants and was fond of tending the roses she grew outdoors. Sandy loved to go camping and over the years she had created a collection of bells which she acquired from the various places she visited. Sandy and Daryl were members of the Sibley card club. She was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and assisted with crafts at Summer Bible School.
On Dec. 3, 2000, at the age of 50, she died from scleroderma in her room at the Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center where she had recently been admitted.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sibley. Interment was in the Holman Township Cemetery, Sibley.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 36 years: Daryl Renner of Sibley; two sons: Rick Renner and his wife, Amy of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Ron Renner of Sibley; her daughter-in-law: LeAnn Renner of Sibley; her three grandchildren: Chris and Anthony Renner of Sibley and Ashby Renner of Cedar Rapids, IA; by her mother: Zelda Luft of Vermillion; one sister: Donna Grovijahn and her husband, Bill of Yankton; and one brother: Dennis Luft of Strawberry Point, IA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Luft; her son, Randy Renner and her father and mother-in-law, Harry and Margaret Renner.
