Strong winds, blowing snow and brutally cold temperatures forced schools in Vermillion and throughout southeast South Dakota to remain closed. The winds let up Tuesday, but struck northern Clay County once again Wednesday afternoon, forcing Wakonda Public Schools to close early that afternoon.
