Students’ drive for Head Start successful

Students' drive for Head Start successful Every fall the Student Social Work Association conducts a donation drive for USD Head Start.

This year they collected dry goods things that families cannot purchase with food stamps or sometimes go without beacause they cannot afford them. The results of the drive were overwhelming.

The drive collected items such as laundry soap, cleaners, toilet paper, personal toiletry items, Band-Aids, hats and mittens, diapers and wipes, toothpaste and brushes, socks, underwear, etc.

USD Head Start families and teachers let the Student Social Work Association know when they need some extra assistance. The association can provide these items to families that need them. They will appreciate this additional help and the association appreciates being able to offer these items to them.

The USD Student Social Work Association is a group of social work students and other interested students who sponsor activities such as food and clothing drives, speakers, Social Work Month, internship job fairs, and other activities. This group works to enhance the effective functioning and well being of individuals, families, and communities through its work and through advocacy.

In past years they have collected mittens and hats, snow boots, coats, dry goods, and cash donations for USD Head Start.

Students Peggy Denoboer and David Jal, and Supervisor Lloyd Hawes, assistant professor, delivered the items to USD Head Start.
