Swimmers sweep South Dakota State The University of South Dakota men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a pair of dual wins with South Dakota State Friday.
The men's team won, scoring a 140-82 decision, while the women's team rolled past the Jackrabbits 115-64.
USD's men's team won eight of the 13 events as quality depth played a big role in the final result.
Charles Scribner won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:14.02) with teammates Tyler Hartl second (10:18.01) and Larry White fourth (11:06.42).
David Nelson won the 50-yard freestyle (23.16) with Nick Seeba third (23.47) and Dustin Tomhave fifth (24.50). The Coyotes took first and third in the 200-yard individual medley with Torey Melton first (2:03.84) and Clint Eckhardt third (2:07.82).
USD took the top three places in the men's 100-yard butterfly with Drew Fleek first (55.09), Jeremy Weed second (56.60) and Chad Bostick third (57.99). The Coyotes took second through fourth in the 100-yard freestyle as Eric Dufek won the event (50.25), Tomhave finished second (53.63) and Tyler Dunlop third (55.25).
The Coyotes also took second through fourth place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke with Mike Kaiser second (58.09), Ben Britton third (1:00.74) and White fourth (1:01.53).
USD's Dakota Tefertiller won the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.50) while Seeba was third (1:08.37) and Matthew Haake fifth (1:10.66). Melton was second (5:10.02), Jeremy Byrne fourth (5:25.74) and David Schimelpfenig fifth (5:30.16) in the 500-yard freestyle.
In addition, USD took three of the top five places in the 200-yard freestyle with Fleek second (1:50.77), Jason Foster fourth (1:58.13) and Dunlop fifth (2:10.01).
The Coyotes' 200-yard freestyle relay teams took three of the top four places. The team of Britton, Scribner, Hartl and Dufek won the race (1:30.10). The team of Eckhardt, Weed, Melton and Nelson took second (1:33.51), and the team of Bostick, Schimelpfenig, Dunlop and Kaiser was third (1:36.03).
USD's team of Fleek, Haake, Nelson and Byrne were second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.33), and the team of Bostick, Tomhave, Dufek and Foster was third (1:49.12).
Lau'Rance Dollison won the men's one-meter diving (140.10 points) and three-meter diving (123.45 points) competitions.
The Coyote women won nine of the 13 events including two victories each by Sara Hamlet, Sara Pokela and Kari Kopecky. Hamlet took first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.28) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.68). Pokela won the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.98) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.88).
Kopecky did well in the sprints, taking first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.28) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.64). Angela Anderson was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:43.45) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.51). Molly Connolly was second in the 100-yard freestyle (57.07) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (25.98).
Jill Stensby took second (1:12.20) and Sanami Fottral third (1:13.68) in the 100-yard breaststroke. Fottral was also third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.98). Ashley Shaper was third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.94) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.24).
The Coyote 200-yard medley relay team of Pokela, Connolly, Kopecky and Hamlet took first (1:58.33), and the 200-yard freestyle relay of Shaper, Stensby, Anderson and Fottral took second (1:50.68).
Staci Shay won the one-meter diving (120.25 points) and three-meter diving (108.05 points) competitions.
