Tanager freshmen defeat Harrisburg by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers rolled over the Harrisburg Tigers 52-30 in boys� basketball Dec. 8 at home in a win ignited by a first-quarter blitz.
The season-opening win gave Vermillion freshmen a record of 1-0 while Harrisburg freshmen fell to 0-1.
�We played solid basketball for our first game,� said Vermillion freshman Coach Jason Huska. �We took good shots on offense and played good help defense. We had several players contribute on both sides of the ball.�
The Tanagers jumped ahead 18-3 after the first quarter, led 26-17 at halftime, and then held a lead of 43-23 going into the final period.
The Vermillion freshmen made 3 of 7 three-pointers and made 5 of 7 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 19 of 40 field goal attempts, while Harrisburg freshmen were 7 of 30 from the field. Harrisburg freshmen sank 4 of 12 three-pointers and connected on 4 of 12 free throw attempts.
Vermillion freshmen held a 36-20 edge on the boards.
