Quad state band fest is Jan. 29 The University Bands at The University of South Dakota will host the third annual Quad State Honor Band Festival on Monday, Jan. 29.
The festival concert will be held in the Knutson Theatre in Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts at 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Lawrence L. Mitchell, director of bands, serves as organizer and host for the festival. One hundred and seventy-five high school musicians from 36 area high schools were invited to perform in two honor bands.
The Symphonic Honor Band will be directed by Paul Gausman, newly appointed coordinator of fine and performing arts for the Sioux Falls Public Schools. Gausman served as director of bands and Millard West High School in Omaha, NE, prior to his current position.
The Honor Concert Band will be directed by Mitchell. The USD Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mitchell, will close the program, performing works by Alfred Reed, John Philip Sousa, and Stephen Melillo. The public is invited to attend the concert at no admission charge.
