USD to host invitational track meet

USD to host invitational track meet South Dakota Track and Field will host the Bill Hillenbrand Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 12-13 in the DakotaDome.

Events will begin on Friday with the pentathlon at 3 p.m., and field events and running events starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday, events begin at 8:30 a.m.

On Friday, primarily collegiate events will be held. On Saturday, the meet will consist of unattached high school, open and collegiate entrants.

A special feature at the meet will be U.S. Olympic alternate Derek Miles, who will attempt to break the DakotaDome record of 18'4" in the pole vault. Miles will vault at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Miles, a coach for South Dakota's track and field team, vaulted his way onto the U.S. Olympic pole vault squad in July in Sacramento, CA.
