Vermillion team wins EP-J volleyball match Elk Point-Jefferson entertained the Vermillion High School Tanagers at the Huskies' gym last Thursday ,Jan. 18.
It proved to be a measure of revenge, as the visitors from Vermillion, when previous match results were reversed and VHS swept EP-J in two games 15-9, 15-13, bringing the season record to 12-2-2.
Elly Kjose led the Tanagers with 23 offensive assists, six digs and four kills. Leslie Larson had three solo blocks, two aces, seven kills and five digs. Ashley Bjorkman scored three aces, two blocks, eight kills and four digs.
Carey Engstrom had one ace and five digs. Nikki Mollet recorded three solo blocks and one kill. Jaclyn Powell led the defense with eight digs, a solo, an ace and six kills, while Karen Sorensen had three kills, four digs and an ace.
The junior varsity didn't fare as well, losing both games 13-15, 9-15. Meggie Donnelly led defensively with eight digs and one block while scoring six service points, one ace, one kill and five assists. Dru Vankley had three blocks (two solo), five kills, four service points, four aces and two digs. Ashley Thompson scored eight service points, two aces, one solo, one assist, three kills and four digs.
Allison Stewart had 22 kills, three service points and two digs. Whitney Tolsma recorded four assists and two digs, while Dani Weydert had one service point and three digs. Morgan Hollingsworth had a solo block and a kill.
