Abbott appointed to state board The South Dakota Board of Education has two new members.
Gov. Bill Janklow said Jan. 24 that he has named University of South Dakota President Jim Abbott and Jack Broome of Burke to the board.
"These two men truly fit the definition of conscientious public servants," Janklow said. "They will truly serve the best interests of South Dakota and our people."
Both of their appointments are effective immediately and continue until Dec. 31, 2002. Broome replaces state Secretary of Education and Cultural Affairs Ray Christensen on the board, while Abbott replaces Maurice "Pete" Rabenberg of Sisseton.
