Bothun will be visiting scholar at USD Dr. Gregory D. Bothun is The University of South Dakota Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar for 2001.
Bothun will present a lecture titled "The Internet as Education: A Paradigm Shift or Television All Over Again" on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Farber Hall on the USD campus. A reception will follow in the Betty Turner Asher University Room.
USD faculty, students and staff, as well as the general public are invited to attend the lecture.
Bothun is a professor of physics at the University of Oregon, as well as the director of the university's Pine Mountain Observatory. He is considered a leader in the use of education technology as a teaching tool. Bothun has been a member of the astronomy department at the University of Michigan and a research fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
He was honored in 1977 with the National Science Foundation's Recognition Award for the Integration of Research into Teaching.
