Gymnasts place second at Region 2A Tourney In the Region 2A gymnastics meet in Madison last Friday, Feb. 9, the Tanager gymnastics team placed second behind the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 119.75 points to qualify for the state meet scheduled Feb. 17 at Rapid City Stevens.
The top three team scores are invited to attend the state meet, and the best 15 individuals in each event also qualify.
Vermillion participants with their scores and place in each event are listed below.
Brittney Gilkyson � 7.675 (10th) bars; 7.7 (15th) vault.
Tabitha Hubert � 6.375 beam.
Carley Bernard � 6.225 beam.
Beth Pier � 6.35 beam; 7.125 (15th) floor exercise; 7.4 vault.
Katie Connors � 7.0 (15th) bars; 7.525 (seventh) beam; 8.35 (fifth) floor exercise; 8.15 (fifth) vault; 31.025 (fifth) all-around.
Natalie Tuetken � 7.2 (12th) bars.
Sarah Gregg � 4.725 beam.
Meganne Hovden � 6.7 bars; 6.95 floor exercise; 8.15 (fifth) vault.
Amber Reisdorph � 6.825 bars; 8.025 (seventh) floor exercise; 7.45 vault.
Sarah Christopherson � 8.1 (second) bars; 6.65 (13th) beam; 7.475 (11th) floor exercise; 7.9 (ninth) vault; 30.125 (sixth) all-around.
"I'm happy with the results of the region meet," said Coach Mark Upward. "We had our best beam routine scores of the season, but still lost 3 points by falls. The state meet should be really exciting. Five teams have a legitimate run for the second place trophy."
Madison is the expected champion for the Class A division since they had the highest team score in regionals at 135.30.
