Indoor track team places well in Minnesota

Indoor track team places well in Minnesota Sandy Pelkofer won the women's pole vault while the men's 4×400 relay took third in their best performance this season to highlight the South Dakota men's and women's track and field team's performance at the University of Minnesota Gold Country Classic on Jan. 26-27 in Minneapolis, MN.

The meet included several NCAA Division I track and field schools such as BYU, Minnesota, Texas-Arlington, Iowa and Marquette along with NCAA Division II schools South Dakota and North Dakota among others.

Pelkofer captured the women's pole vault (11-0) in leading several outstanding performances by the women's squad. Patricia Goertz finished third (2:14.85) and Tammy Christensen was sixth (2:17.31) in the 800-meter dash.

Nicole Mitchell was fourth in the triple jump (35-10). Tonya Kneifl finished second in the high jump (5-7) and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.06). Sarah Menghini was fifth in the 200-meter dash (25.94) while Brianne Vette was sixth in the long jump (16-11.5).

Ryan Finley had an outstanding meet to lead the Coyote men's team. He finished fifth at the Minnesota meet and clocked a 48.97 in the 400-meter dash. Finley's time is the fastest this season in the NCC and sixth best in NCAA Division II. In addition, Finley anchored the USD 4×400-meter relay squad to a third place finish in 3:14.92. That time is the best in the NCC and second fastest in NCAA Division II this season.

John Kehoe finished second in the 800-meter run (1:54.65) and Chad Rohde was second in the triple jump (47-3.5). In addition, Paul Brozik was fourth in the high jump (6-6.75) and Rohde, sixth (6-4.75).

Josh Hofer was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.33), James Druyvestein was fourth and Eric Tarasewicz was sixth (14-0) in the pole vault. Bill Gassen and Vinnie Olson were fifth (50-0) and sixth (46-11.5), respectively in the shot put. Ronnie McDougle was fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.06).
