Junior Music Festival set The 37th annual Junior Music Festival, sponsored by the Vermillion Music Club in conjunction with the National Federation of Music Clubs, will be held on Saturday, March 3.
About 100 young musicians, ages 6-18, from the Vermillion area are expected to participate, performing on either the piano or a string instrument.
Each student performs two pieces of music, one of which is a required selection for the category in which the student is performing, and receives a rating and written critique from a judge. The festival will be held in the Warren M. Lee Fine Arts Building on The University of South Dakota campus, with the piano students performing in Colton Recital Hall and the string players in the Choral Room.
Judging the string performers will be Kathi Angeroth, principal second violin with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra.
Lucetta Johnson from Sioux Falls will be judging the piano performers. She is a piano teacher in Sioux Falls and frequently judges at piano competitions in this area.
All sessions are free of charge and open to the public. For further information, contact Carolyn Johnson at 624-4233.
