Program explores media and youth Many people are not aware of the power of the media and its impact on our children. The scope of media has changed dramatically in the last few years and it is imperative that parents and adults become aware of its power.
"What can we do about the influence of media on our children's lives?" will be the topic of a three-part program co-sponsored by the South 2 Field Education Unit of SDSU Cooperative Extension Service and USD Head Start. Sessions will be held on Feb. 22, March 1 and 8 at the United Church of Christ, 226 E. Main Street, Vermillion, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Topics to be covered in the sessions are how to reduce the time children participate in media activities, how to evaluate media for age appropriateness, and how to develop a family plan to be more media-wise.
All concerned parents and adults are welcome to attend the free program. In order to have sufficient handout materials, pre-register by Feb. 20 by calling the Clay County Extension Office at 677-7111 or USD Head Start at 677-5235.
