USD, Sioux Valley announce opening of training center University of South Dakota Athletic Director Kelly Higgins has announced the opening of the Sioux Valley Sports and USD Athletic Training Center, located in the southwest corner of the DakotaDome.
As part of a corporate partnership agreement, Sioux Valley Hospital provided 50 new pieces of weight equipment and a new floor to the university. The new equipment, combined with the existing cardiovascular and weight equipment, provide a state-of-the-art, 7,000 square feet training center.
To utilize the new equipment and encourage use of the training center by members of the university, employees of Sioux Valley and citizens in the Vermillion area, Sioux Valley and USD's Campus Recreation office are providing wellness courses including smoking cessation, step aerobics, stress management, nutrition, and health education.
"We are very excited to work with the university on the Athletic Training Center and Wellness Program," Kelby Krabbenhoft, CEO of Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System said. "Together, Sioux Valley and USD can provide an excellent combination of health and fitness services for everyone. And, we can help USD and other area athletes prepare to do their best."
"The arrangement with Sioux Valley has provided the university with one of the best weight room/training centers in the region," Higgins said. "With just over 7,000 square feet and state-of-the-art equipment, our athletic department and university are able to meet the needs of our department, USD's students and employees, and the community."
