USD Symphonic Band will perform Feb. 28 The University of South Dakota Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Lawrence L. Mitchell, will present a winter band concert at 8 p.m. in Knutson Theatre on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
The 70-member symphonic band will perform wind band selections by Alfred Reed, Stephen Melillo, James Barnes, and Gabriel Faure. Highlighting the concert will be a performance of An American Elegy by Frank Ticheli. The composition was recently performed on April 23, 2000 at a commemorative concert at the University of Colorado in memory of those who lost their lives at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999.
The band will close the program with a performance of The New York Hippodrome March by John Philip Sousa. The concert is free and open to the public.
