Candidates file petitions Candidates seeking office on the Vermillion School Board and the Vermillion City Council have begun to file petitions.
School board incumbents Nick Merrigan and Floyd Boschee have filed petitions with Business Manager Sheila DeSmet. Both are seeking another three-year term on the board.
DeSmet said she won't know until after the March 9 petition filing deadline if either man will face an election challenge.
Several individuals are circulating petitions of nomination for Vermillion City Council to fill upcoming two-year term aldermen vacancies in the central, northeast, northwest and southeast wards. Incumbents in those wards are Leo Powell, Kevin Annis, Joe Grause and Frank Slagle, respectively.
Carol Sanderson and David Lias have circulated and filed nominating petitions to become central ward alderman candidates. Christopher R. Stucke and Drake Olson are still circulating petitions in the central ward.
Creighton Thurman and Dennis Zimmerman are circulating petitions in the southeast ward.
Incumbent Joe Grause has filed petitions to serve another two-year term.
