Martinson leads USD softball team

Martinson leads USD softball team The Coyotes opened their softball season in Orlando, FL, with an explosion on March 5, scoring six first inning runs to lead to the 9-3 win against the University of Findlay.

That was more than enough for pitcher Tiffany Hill, who had a solid effort in her first start of the season. Hill went six innings, allowing two earned runs, nine hits and striking out four batters.

Freshman Kaja Martinson went three for three, including two RBI, two doubles and a sacrifice fly. Senior captain Jessica Bills had a hit and two RBI.

Sophomore Janice Alswager was the story of the game against Lock Haven University as she threw a two hitter to win her first start of the season. The Coyotes won the game 2-1.

Alswager threw seven innings, allowing one unearned run, two hits and striking out four hitters. Julie Macrunnels had two hits while Martinson continued her fine play with a hit and two RBI.
