New foundation to support SESDAC, Inc. A new foundation is being formed to strengthen services and supports provided by SESDAC, Inc.
Mike Slattery, SESDAC, Inc. executive director, announced that the new foundation will be a separate tax exempt organization. He said it will develop a charitable fund to benefit SESDAC, Inc. and people with disabilities in the Vermillion area.
SESDAC, Inc. was founded in 1973 as the Southeast South Dakota Activity Center. Since that time the non-profit organization has been successfully assisting people with disabilities to live and work in the Vermillion area.
More than 20 area businesses employ people, with day to day support from SESDAC staff. Many others are able to live independently in their own homes because SESDAC staff are there to help them tackle the tasks of everyday living.
The SESDAC, Inc. board appointed three of its members and the SESDAC, Inc. executive director to be incorporators of the new foundation. Articles of Incorporation were filed June 8.
The SESDAC Foundation Board of Directors, all of Vermillion, are Glenda Schempp, president, Sandy Dickenson, vice-president, Young Moore III, treasurer, Kate Geise, secretary, and Gloria Christopherson, Kevin Culhane, Bill Dambowy and Mike Slattery.
