Tanager season play ends with loss with loss to the Orioles by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers lost to the Lennox Orioles 57-38 in varsity boys� basketball Feb. 22 at home after being buried by a disastrous first half.
�Lennox took us out of our game plan early and we couldn�t seem to respond to their ?up-tempo� approach,� said Vermillion varsity Coach Troy Terronez. �After halftime, we were able to play ?our� game and keep the difference even through the rest of the way, but we were unable to cut much into their first-half lead.
�I hope this was a ?wake-up call� for the team as we prepare for the district tournament,� he added.
The Tanagers fell behind 18-5 after the first quarter, trailed 30-10 at halftime, and then trailed 48-27 going into the final period.
The loss dropped the Vermillion varsity to a record of 10-6, while Lennox improved to 13-4.
The Vermillion varsity connected on 3 of 15 three-pointers and connected on 5 of 14 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 12 of 36 field goals, while Lennox was 22 of 51 from the field. Lennox connected on 1 of 11 three-pointers and hit 14 of 21 free throw tries.
