USD students will host aging health fair The third annual Successful Aging Health Fair at the Vermillion Senior Center will be held on March 13 from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
This health fair features student and professors from nine different health professions all providing screenings and education to help people age in a healthy manner.
Some of the services include: medication reviews (bring in all your medications and learn about side-effects, etc.), free toothbrush exchange, balance, vision and glucose tests. The newest service being offered is cholesterol screening. This is provided by Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System for a charge of $11.
Throughout the nation, most rural communities suffer from struggling economies and do not have the ability to provide many health services. Last year USD students provided successful aging health fairs in North Sioux City, Irene and Vermillion.
This year, fairs will be provided in Alcester, Irene and Vermillion. Student services will be similar, except free hearing screenings are provided in the outlying communities. Everyone is welcome.
