VHS competes in Dan Lennon meet at USD Participants in the girls' 55 meter hurdles of the Dan Lennon track meet, held Monday and Tuesday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, stayed in nearly perfect synchronization throughout the close race. Kristin Hanson of Okoboji High (IA) and Phil Rocha of Bellevue West (NE) were named the Most Valuable Athletes of the Class A section of the Dan Lennon Relays on Monday, March 26 at the DakotaDome.

The Class B section of the meet was held on Tuesday, March 27. More than 1,300 participants from four states competed at the Dan Lennon Invitational, hosted by The University of South Dakota track and field team.

Greg Merrigan, a longtime public address announcer for USD track and field, was presented the Dan Lennon Award during the afternoon session of the meet. He started announcing track and field when USD moved into the DakotaDome facility in 1979 and has announced at all the North Central Conference meets held at the Dome, two outdoor NCC meets and the NCAA Division II meets held in the Dome.

Merrigan started announcing the Sioux City Relays, Howard Wood Dakota Relays and the South Dakota State High School meet in 1995. A Vermillion native, he graduated from Vermillion High School in 1974 and attended USD from 1974-75. He has two children, Sarah, 15, and Jordan, 11.

Girls' shot put final � 8. Sarah Mollet, Vermillion 37-02.

100 meter dash final � 1. Eddie Filopovic, Vermillion 11.39.

1,600 meter run final � 2. Eric Dehner, Vermillion 4:34.77.

4 x 200 meter relay final � 6. Vermillion 1:39.60.
