Winkler endowment will benefit USD law school Fred Winkler, former president of Citibank, South Dakota, and his wife, JoAnn, have created an endowment supporting the professional development for the Family Law faculty at The University of South Dakota School of Law. The endowment will be housed within the USD Foundation.
"This very generous gift will greatly benefit the work of the law school," said USD School of Law Dean Barry Vickrey. "Thanks to Professor Roger Baron, the law school provides strong leadership by educating both students and practicing lawyers in the important field of family law. We greatly appreciate the Winkler's interest in supporting our efforts in this area."
Fred Winkler is a USD School of Law graduate and a former faculty member. JoAnn Winkler holds a degree in nursing from USD. They now live in St. Augustine, FL. The Winklers created the Winkler/Lovre Family Law Endowment in memory of their fathers, Roy Winkler and Vern Lovre, and in honor of their mothers, Evelyn Winkler of Rapid City and Marcella Lovre Oden of Phoenix, AZ. Roy and Evelyn Winkler provided care for over 700 foster children. This long-term family priority provided the impetus for the family law mission of the new endowment.
The mission of the USD Foundation is to provide private financial resources for the University in order to increase the excellence of the educational experience provided by USD. The goal of the Foundation is to create the best small public university in the nation emphasizing excellence in teaching.
