Baseball team splits pair at Sioux City tournament The University of South Dakota baseball team split a pair of games on April 1 at Headid Park in Sioux City, IA.
The Coyotes fell to South Dakota State 3-2 but defeated Northern State 6-3. South Dakota is now 11-8 on the season.
South Dakota State 3, USD 2
South Dakota State scored a run in the top of the seventh to grab a 3-2 over South Dakota in nonconference baseball action.
Dominick Palumbo took the loss as he fell to 1-3 on the season. SDSU's Ryan Hansen scored the winning run from second when Noah Hummel's drag bunt got by the South Dakota third baseman.
The Jacks scored twice in the first inning, on an RBI single by Studer and a wild pitch. The Coyotes scored both of their runs in the second inning on just two hits. David Iman and Derek Huxford scored on a single by Nate Dunlap.
USD 6, Northern State 3
South Dakota received a strong pitching performance from John Brunswold to turn back Northern State, 6-3 in nonconference action. Brunswold, who improved his record to 2-0 on the season, allowed just three runs and seven hits in six innings of work. Rob Miller pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up his third save of the season.
South Dakota scored four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning. Northern State scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
