Boys' tennis team swept by Washington junior varsity The Tanager boys' tennis team faced another worthy opponent in the high school ranks as they suffered a 9-0 defeat by the Sioux Falls Washington junior varsity team on Thursday, April 19 at the Vermillion High School courts.
Scoring results are:
Singles: Jason Holoch (V) lost 10-4; Chris Yutrzenka (V) lost 10-3; Nathan Scheidel (V) lost 10-1; Steve Foltz (V) lost 10-0; Tim Goodman (V) lost 10-1; and Anish Patel (V) lost 10-1.
Doubles: Holoch/Scheidel won 10-7; Yutrzenka/Foltz lost 10-4; and Goodman/Patel lost 10-3. JV singles: Dan Day lost 10-0.
"The Warriors' varsity is ranked number one in the state, so we knew their JV would be tough too," said Tanager Coach Nick Hovden. "The wind definitely was a factor, and frustration played a key part in our loss.
"We have shown great improvement in the individual matches since the beginning of the season," he added. "The doubles players are learning to anticipate each other's style of play, and are only going to get better as the season progresses. Everyone knows that the road to improvement is through better competition."
