Concerto competition winners to perform Winners of the USD Community Orchestra's annual concerto competition will be featured in the orchestra's spring concert on Monday, April 23, at 8 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts.
Winners are soprano Shelly Bottorff, pianist Eric Eichorst, and trumpeter Scott Muntefering. They are all seniors at The University of South Dakota and study with Dr. Frank Aiello, Dr. Susan Keith Gray, and Dr. Rolf Olson, respectively.
The concert will begin with Muntefering playing the first movement of the Hummel Trumpet Concerto, after which Bottorff will sing Rossini's Una Voce Poco Fa.
The rest of concert will be a survey of 20th century music, including Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question, Alan Hovhaness' Armenian Rhapsody No. 3, Agenda, by Bernard Rands, and a movement of a suite by Prokofieff.
The concert, which is free, will conclude with Eichorst performing the first movement of Bartok's First Piano Concerto.
