Girls claim another first at Elk Point Invitational The Tanager girls' track team scored 143 points to win the 2001 Huskies Invitational last Tuesday, April 3 at Elk Point.
Vermillion High School swept the triple jump and the 3200 meter run to pace the victory over a nine-team field. Jaclyn Powell scored points in every jumping event.
"We were very pleased with the efforts by all the jumpers and I was very happy with the distance runners' showing," said new head Coach Kelly Knutson.
Jaclyn Powell, Annie Carlson and Nicole Pederson were first, second and third respectively in the triple jump. The other field events found two Tanagers placing in the high jump � Powell first and Carlson third. Powell placed third in the long jump, also.
Brooke Johnson placed fourth in the 100M hurdles; and Elly Kjose was first and Nicki Nelson second in the 100M dash. Morgan Brooks placed third in the 400M dash.
In the 1600M run, Angela Rydell ran fourth and Megan Griffith sixth. In the 3200M run, Natalie Tuetken, Emily Pier and Theresa Ring swept the first three places.
In the relays, first place was scored in the 4x100M by members Nicole Pederson, Nicki Nelson, Carly Bernard and Elly Kjose. The medley, with Pederson, Nelson, Tessa Tuetken, and Michelle Rasmussen, also placed first. The 800M relay placed second with Pederson, Nelson, Bernard and Kjose, and the 1600M relay team was fourth, with Kayla Mollet, Brittney Gilkyson, Bernard and Beth Pier.
The 3200M relay team of Rasmussen, Gilkyson, Morgan Brooks and Tessa Tuetken placed second.
