Iditarod musher will visit St. Agnes School Iditarod Musher Vern Halter brings his positive message of achieving goals through higher education to students at St. Agnes School on Wednesday, May 2, as part of the Dream A Dream Tour of Schools, sponsored by Wells Fargo.
Halter recently completed his 14th Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska, finishing 11th out of 69 mushers. In his career, he has six top-10 finishes, including a personal best third place effort in 1999.
With the help of a couple of his dogs, Halter's presentation describes his experiences preparing for and racing in the Iditarod, shares a video about the race and explains some of the equipment he uses. Halter will be joined by Susan Whiton, his wife, a veterinarian and an accomplished sled dog musher in her own right.
Since Halter's first Iditarod in 1983, his dream has been to win the "World's Most Grueling Race," and his message to children everywhere is to dream the dream, get an education, and work hard to achieve their goals.
Wells Fargo is a major sponsor of Halter's competition in the Iditarod. Wells Fargo Bank South Dakota, N.A., is a $6.8 billion bank providing diversified financial services with 51 banking stores located in 32 communities throughout South Dakota.
