Nebraska-Omaha sweeps softball team 10-2 and 3-0 The University of South Dakota women's softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to the University of Nebraska-Omaha in nonconference softball action at Claussen-Westgate Field on Tuesday night, March 27 in Omaha, NE.
The Coyotes, who fell to 13-13 on the season, lost 10-2 and 3-0. The losses snapped South Dakota's five-game winning streak.
In the first game, UNO jumped to a 6-0 lead after three innings and cruised to the win in game one. Michelle Manthei held the Coyotes to two runs on eight hits and recorded 12 strikeouts.
For the Coyotes, freshman Sara Medved started and took the loss. Medved gave up six runs on five hits and had one strikeout. Sophomore Janice Alswager finished the game. Alswager allowed six hits and four runs in three and one-third innings.
Freshman first baseman Keri Bolte had two hits and scored a run. Senior Tiffany Davis, the NCC Player of the Week, had one hit and scored a run. Medved, sophomore Julie MacRunnels, freshman Kaja Martinson and freshman Cara Ellwanger also had hits for South Dakota. The Coyotes scored single runs in the fifth and six innings.
The Coyotes had two runs on eight hits and five errors while UNO had 10 runs on 11 hits and one error. Five of UNO's runs were unearned.
In game two, Krista Unger tossed a no-hitter as UNO defeated South Dakota, 3-0. Unger went seven shutout innings with six strikeouts and four walks. Tiffany Hill allowed seven hits and two runs in four innings while Alswager finished, allowing four hits and one run in two innings.
