Luetta Ann Peake, 67, Vermillion died April 17, 2001, at Select Specialty Hospital, Sioux Falls. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls.
Luetta Ann Schurman was born July 21, 1933, at Pipestone, MN, to John and Lora (Meier) Schurman. She was raised in the area and attended country schools. Following her graduation from Garretson High School, she worked as a clerk at Jack and Jill Grocery.
She married Victor Peake in Pipestone, MN, on Jan. 3, 1961. The couple lived in San Diego, CA, until Victor's honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1964. The couple then returned to Pipestone where Lu worked for Langer's Locker. In 1967, the family moved to Spencer, IA. Within the next few years they lived in George, IA, and Harlan, IA, before moving to Vermillion. She began working at The University of South Dakota as a cashier in 1986. She retired in 1986, after experiencing a stroke.
She cherished her time with her grandchildren, and enjoyed picnicking, camping, fishing and the outdoors. One of her favorite spots was Lewis and Clark Lake. She was a "mother" to all.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin Schurman.
She is survived by her husband: Victor; two sons: Scott Peake, Omaha, NE, and Steven Peake and his wife, Kim, Omaha; a daughter: Lori Stevens and her husband, Scott, Vermillion; four sisters: Gert Duffert and her boyfriend, Dallas Pederson, Flandreau, JoAnn VanDeVoordle and her husband, Bob, Pipestone, MN, Kay Kortlever and her husband, Rally, Holland, MN, and Joyce Becker, Dubuque, IA; and six grandchildren.
