Obituaries Kenneth Sailor
Kenneth C. Sailor, 81, Vermillion, died Friday, April 13, 2001 at SIoux Valley Vermillion Hospital.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 17 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Vermillion, with the Rev. Don Imming officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Vermillion, with graveside services by the Vermillion VFW Clay Post No. 3061. Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home, Vermillion, was in charge of arrangements.
He was born Jan. 7, 1920, at Ponca, NE, to Percy and Maude (Trudeau) Sailor. He graduated from Elk Point High School in 1939 and also from the Sioux City Barber College. He was a longtime barber in Vermillion.
He married Dorothy Scott Jan. 10, 1941, at Ponca, NE. She died Nov. 2, 1985. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England. He had lived in Vermillion since 1946.
He married Margaret Fullenkamp on Nov. 25, 1989 in Vermillion.
He was a member of the Vermillion VFW and the Eagles.
He is survived by his wife: Margaret; a son: Thomas (Cindy) Sailor, Alcester; a daughter: Mary (Mike) Bronson, Elk Point; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a step sister: June Ellsworth, Sioux City, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dorothy, a brother Glenn, and a step-brother Charles Burke.
Joy (Joyce) Mercedes Versteeg, 93, formerly of Vermillion, died on April 11, 2001.
She was born Oct. 3, 1907 near Newcastle, NE, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels N. Johnson. She attended Augustana High School in Sioux Falls and graduated from The University of South Dakota with a degree in music education.
She taught music in the public schools of Meckling, Webster, and Platte. She married Dr. M.H. Versteeg and assisted him in his dental practice in Corsica and Vermillion for 37 years.
The couple moved to Arizona in 1969 and after residing in Mesa for three years they moved to Sun City. She has resided at Village Oaks Assisted Living in Glendale for the past two and one half years.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Delta Delta sorority and The Pedal Pushers Bicycling Club of Sun City.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Nels and Emma Johnson, her brother, Earl and his wife, and her husband, Marsailles, who died in 1984.
She is survived by her two sons: Larry of Glendale, AZ, and LeMars of Denver, CO; two granddaughters: Stacy Upton and Stefanie Pascal; and three great-grandchildren: Tayler, Bailey and Aynseley Upton; a nephew: Lyle Johnson; and a niece: Carol Lux.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 17 at the American Lutheran Church in Sun City, AZ.
