Softball team drops two conference games The University of South Dakota dropped a pair of North Central Conference softball encounters with the No. 6 ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks at the USD Softball Complex on April 3.
The Coyotes, who fell to 20-16 overall and 0-2 in the NCC, lost by scores of 7-2 and 8-0.
Michelle Mantei of UNO won both games of the doubleheader, allowing just seven hits and two runs in the two games.
Game 1 � Nebraska-Omaha 7, USD 2
Nebraska-Omaha scored five runs in the final four innings to break open a close game and defeat South Dakota in game one, 7-2. Mathei had a complete game, three hitter against the Coyotes, who managed just two runs. Manthei recorded eight strikeouts.
Meanwhile, South Dakota sophomore Janice Alswager's seven-game winning streak came to an end. Alswager, 9-3, allowed nine hits and seven runs with just permitted just one earned run in the game. She walked four UNO hitters, but on the offensive end, she hit her first home run of the season.
Alswager had two hits, a run scored and RBI to lead South Dakota.
Game 2 � Nebraska-Omaha 8, USD 0
Nebraska-Omaha rode the pitching of Manthei to capture game two, 8-0, and sweep the NCC doubleheader. Manthei allowed just four hits in seven innings of work. She walked four batters and had seven strikeouts.
Tiffany Hill took the loss for the Coyotes as she allowed eight runs and just three earned runs. She dropped to 7-8 on the season.
The Coyotes received hits from Cara Ellwanger, Julie MacRunnels, Jessica Bills and Melanie Robotham.
