Tanager boys meet with success at Lennox meet The Tanager boys' track team had a successful time at the Lennox Booster Club Qualifier on Thursday, April 19.
No team scoring was determined, since this was considered an individual competition, with chances for each participant to make a score which would qualify him for the state meet. Schools attending the meet were Brookings, Sioux Falls Christian, Dakota Valley, Lennox, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Parker, Parkston and Vermillion.
Field event results for Vermillion were: Discus � Tim Brodersen, first, with a meet record 156' 6", and Tim Russell second; shot put � Anthony Senne, first, 47' .75"; long jump � Quincy Christie, second, and Kellen Cusick, fourth.
The coaches held out the hurdle and dash men so they could load up the relay teams in an effort to qualify for state. However, in the 3200m run, Eric Dehner placed first (10 minutes, .6 seconds) with Darryl Neufeld and Derrick Brown finishing second and fifth, respectively.
In the relays, the 4x100m team finished first in 45 seconds flat to qualify for state (Eddie Filipovic, Quincy Christie, Dan Tolsma and BJ Reynolds), and the 4×200 relay team won first place with the foursome of Filipovic, Tolsma, Christie and Bart Miller. Their time was 1:34.4. In the 4x400m relay the team of Tolsma, Adam Brooks, Reynolds and Josh Kyte placed fifth.
The medley team of Christie, Filipovic, Tolsma and Dehner placed second, just .6 of a second behind Sioux Falls Christian, who set a meet record. The foursome became another state qualified relay team for Vermillion. Their second place time was 3:34.9!
Coach Dan Bergland cited the efforts of Christie in the long jump and Dehner in the 3200m, since they were both facing a strong wind during their competitions.
