Tanagers place second at 2001 Canton Relays event The Tanager boys' track team placed second with 107 points, behind Lennox's first place score of 113 at the 2001 Canton Relays last Tuesday, April 10.
There were eight schools represented at the meet.
Coach Dan Bergland complimented the efforts of Eric Dehner, who qualified for state in the 1600m, and Eddie Filipovic, who ran the 200m dash in 22.4 seconds � probably the second best time in the state thus far. He was also pleased with Tim Brodersen's performance.
"Tim Brodersen had a discus toss of 161' 9", his best this year, to take first place," Coach Bergland said.
Field event results for Vermillion were:
Discus � Brodersen first and Tim Russell second, 151' 9"; shot put � Anthony Senne first, 46' 2"; triple jump � Jarrod Bertram sixth; long jump � Kellen Cusick fifth.
Filipovic placed first in both the 100m (10.85) and 200m (22.40) dashes; and Dan Tolsma was fifth in the 200m. Quincy Christie was third in the 400m dash, and Cusick placed fifth. Bart Miller placed fourth in the the 800m run.
In the 1600m run, with a time of 4:33.28, Dehner placed first and qualified for state. Darryl Neufeld placed sixth. The 3200m run had Dehner and Neufeld at first and second, respectively.
In the relays, the Tanagers placed first in the 4x200m (Adam Brooks, Tolsma, Christie and Filipovic) with a time of 1:34.52, and fourth in the 4x800m (Josh Kyte, Craig Powell, Justin Manning and Tyler Brown). In the 4x400m relay, the team of Brooks, Cusick, Christie and Miller placed fifth.
