USD takes two at softball tournament in Omaha, NE The University of South Dakota softball team won three of four games at the 16-team University of Nebraska-Omaha Tournament on March 31-April 1.
South Dakota won both of its games on Sunday, turning back Northwest Missouri State 4-3 and shutting out the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs 2-0. The Coyotes improved their record to 20-14 on the season.
USD 4, NMSU 3
South Dakota scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Northwest Missouri State 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.
The Coyotes received a strong pitching performance from sophomore Janice Alswager, who allowed just seven hits and three runs (two earned runs) in throwing the complete game victory. It was Alswager's third straight complete game victory. She improved her record to 9-2 on the season. Offensively for the Coyotes, Tiffany Davis had two doubles in four at bats and an RBI while Mollie Witherbee had two hits, a double and two RBI. Kaja Martinson had two doubles and a run scored while Melanie Robotham added two hits and a run scored for South Dakota.
USD 2, Colorado-Colorado Springs 0
Sophomore Tiffany Hill combined with freshman Sara Medved on a seven hit shutout as South Dakota defeated the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in their final game of the University of Nebraska-Omaha Tournament.
Hill pitched six shutout innings, allowing just six hits as she improved her record to 6-6 on the season. Medved pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up a save. Medved allowed one hit and had a strikeout.
Davis again did the damage offensively as she had a double and a triple with an RBI to lead the Coyotes. South Dakota had two runs on seven hits.
