VHS baseball team earns first win in SEBA league The Vermillion baseball team overcame a rash of errors to claim a close 11-9 victory over the Harrisburg Tigers at Prentis Park on April 18 for its first win in the 18-team league.
Danny Holoch started and pitched four innings, giving up four runs (three unearned) on three hits. Drew Lawrence relieved in the fifth and gave up five runs (four unearned) and was credited with the win. The team again was plagued by errors and wild pitches but held on to earn the win.
The offense came alive with seven hits and six walks, led by Eric Rickord who was on base four times and scored four runs from his lead off position going two for two at the plate. Lawrence went one for three and scored twice.
Holoch scored three times, going one for four driving in two runs. Brett Mockler was one for three, scoring once and driving in one. Pat Brooks scored the other run as he was on base three times hit by pitch twice plus a walk. BJ Campbell was one for three and had one RBI.
Coach Jason Gault was happy for the turn-around from the first game.
"We had great fan support and the boys responded as the bats came around, and the pitching was solid," he said. "However, we need to limit those unforced errors in the field and behind the plate."
The team has had several weather-related cancellations and is making an effort to reschedule some on them. They played at Madison on April 20 and hosted Sioux Falls Lincoln April 23 and Lennox April 25.
