Baseball team improves record against Howard The Vermillion High School baseball team improved its record to 5-4 in the eight-team A division as they defeated the Howard Tigers 13-3 on Wednesday, May 9 in Howard.
Danny Holoch pitched a one-hit, two-run opening four innings, walking five and being backed up in the field with only one error. Only one of the runs was earned.
Drew Lawrence relieved in the fifth inning, and gave up an unearned run while walking three and striking out two, with no hits during his two-inning stint. Rob Schaack closed, setting down the Tigers 1-2-3, including a K.
The offense was led by Ryan Nelson with four for five hits, three runs, and one RBI. Brett Mockler went two for three, scoring two and had three RBI. Dan Holoch was two for three, scoring once. Lawrence went two for four, scored one and had an RBI. Josh Kyte scored two runs with one for two plate appearances, while Adam Brunick was one for two with one RBI. Pat Brooks was one for four with two runs scored and one RBI.

The Tanagers were scheduled to play at Sioux Falls Washington on May 14, and entertain Brandon Valley May 15 to close out the regular season.
They are in fourth place in the A division on the conference and the state tournament will be held Friday through Sunday, May 18-20 in Sioux Falls.
