Dehner runs away with gold at Howard Wood A contingent of 25 Tanager tracksters, both boys and girls, were entered in the 77th annual running of the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls last Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5.
The meet was hampered by cold, rain, and wind but over 2,500 participants made the effort to overcome the weather-shortened day and a half competition.
Eric Dehner won the 3200M run in a time of 9:49.83 and placed seventh in the 1600M. Also running in those races was Darryl Neufeld whose times and places were not tabulated.
Tim Brodersen and Tim Russell placed third and sixth, respectively, in the discus.
In the special 200M dash event, Eddie Filipovic was fourth, timed at 23.30 seconds.
Also competing for the VHS boys were the 4x100M, 4x200M, and 1600M sprint medley relay teams which were unable to make the finals in those events. Also, Anthony Senne couldn't qualify for the finals in the shot put.
Jaclyn Powell entered in the high jump, and Natalie Tuetken entered in the 3200M run, but did not make the finals; nor did the girls' 4x800M relay team.
