Leadership luncheon is scheduled May 19 at USD The University of South Dakota, the W.O. Farber Center for Civic Leadership, and the USD Alumni Association are sponsoring the inaugural Governor's Leadership Luncheon on Saturday, May 19, at 12 p.m. in the North Complex Commons, 800 N. Plum Street at USD.
Principals or guidance counselors from area high schools were asked to nominate one outstanding sophomore student that exemplified the ideals of leadership, scholarship, and service in his or her school and local community. In addition, the students were required to write a short essay highlighting the leadership roles they have experienced in extracurricular activities.
The event will include a lunch and feature a presentation by Gov. William J. Janklow recognizing the future leaders. Each student will also receive an award honoring his or her exceptional attributes and extraordinary service.
The following area students will be receiving awards at the Governor's Leadership Luncheon:
Mara McGill, daughter of Michael and Pam McGill, Beresford; Steven Buechler, son of Mark and Terri Buechler, Centerville; Rebecca Jepsen, daughter of Craig and Sara Jepsen, Gayville; Tessa Tuetken, daughter of Doug and Sara Tuetken, Vermillion; Michael Ward, son of Alan and Marlene Ward, Viborg; Dean Miller, son of Michael and Joan Miller, Irene; and Andrea Gregoire, daughter of Tim and Johanna Gregoire, Wakonda.
