Students enjoy state convention Vermillion High School and Middle School students attended the 134th annual state convention of the South Dakota Student Council Association (SDSCA) held in Pierre, March 25-27.
The SDSCA Convention included over 400 students and advisors from more than 35 high schools across the state.
The SDSCA offers training in leadership that is designed to turn high school and middle school student leaders into lifelong leaders. Focusing on the theme of "M*A*S*H Making All Students Heroes," the convention utilized a combination of small group sessions and instructional presentations.
The state convention also provided an opportunity for student councils from throughout the state to present their checks for money raised as part of the SDSCA "Make-A-Wish" project. This project raised approximately $10,000 to provide for the wishes of two of South Dakota's youth. The VHS Student Council contributed $600 to this project.
Included with the activities of the SDSCA convention was the election of state and regional officers for the upcoming school year. Andrew Knutson from VHS was elected as SDSCA state president. Varsha Ramakrishnan was elected as region representative.
