Tanager girls place 4th at Region 4A track meet; Lennox wins it with 206 The Tanager girls' track team scored 100 points to place fourth at the Region 4A meet last Thursday, May 17 at the Canton track facility.
Lennox was first with 206 and the other schools' places and point totals were: second � Dakota Valley, 115; third � Beresford, 109; fifth � Harrisburg, 52; sixth � Canton, 50; seventh � Elk Point-Jefferson, 43; and eighth � Alcester-Hudson, 39.
To qualify for the state meet, the first and second place scorers in each event are selected. Also, any member of the team who meets the standard set by the state in any event, will be qualified.
Vermillion High School scorers in field events were: Annie Carlson and Jaclyn Powell scored fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the long jump; Carlson was second in the triple jump, while Powell won the high jump (4'10") and Carlson placed seventh.
Lindsay Dunkeson placed fifth in the 100M hurdles and fourth in the 300M hurdles. Brooke Johnson was sixth in the 100M hurdles and fifth in the 300M hurdles. The 100M dash had Elly Kjose coming in fifth and Nicki Nelson placing seventh.
Morgan Brooks and Nelson placed fourth and eighth, respectively, in the 400M dash. In the 800M run, Michelle Rasmussen came in third and Beth Pier eighth. In the 1600M run Megan Griffith placed fifth. To complete the distance running events Natalie Tuetken placed fourth and Beth Pier sixth in the 3200M.
In the relays, fifth place went to the 4x100M team with members Jenna Gilkyson, Nicole Pederson, Nelson and Kjose. The 4x200M team placed seventh (Pederson, Nelson, Carly Bernard and Kjose). The 4x400M relay team came in seventh as well, with members Beth Pier, Powell, Dunkenson and Johnson.
The 4x800M relay team placed second (Brooks, Rasmussen, Tessa Tuetken and Brittney Gilkyson), and the sprint medley team with Jenna Gilkyson, Nelson, Tessa Tuetken and Brittney Gilkyson was in fifth place.
