Vermillion FCCLA attend state meeting The Vermillion Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapter recently attended the State FCCLA Leadership Meeting held April 29-May 1 in Sioux Falls.
Nearly 1,800 members and advisers from all over the state participated in this event with the theme "Reach Your Highest Potential."
The keynote speaker Sunday evening was Harriet Turk from Memphis, TN. Turk spoke on "Challenging People to Make Positive Life Choices." Additional activities for members during the three-day meeting included leadership and peer education workshops.
Recognition was awarded to outstanding chapters across the state. New peer education teams were selected for the upcoming school year, and new state and national officers were announced.
Sarah Kashas from the Vermillion chapter participated in statewide STAR events. She presented an illustrated talk on cheating in schools titled "I Wish the Day Were Longer" and received a superior rating.
Additionally, Kashas ran for one of the peer education teams and was selected to the Bod Squad for the 2001-2002 school year. She will work with 14 other students from around the state to increase awareness of health and fitness and developing a positive self-image for FCCLA members.
