Vermillion track team hosts Big 8 track meet It's difficult to face any top rated team in the state in any competition, but when you're faced with two of them in the three-school Big 8 Conference track meet, the results can be somewhat predictable.
The Lennox Orioles and Madison Bulldogs were in Vermillion last Thursday, May 10 for the annual competition. The Tanager boys' and girls' teams placed third in both divisions.
Boys' team scores: Madison � 83, Lennox � 59, Vermillion � 40.
Girls' team scores: Lennox � 83, Madison � 68, Vermillion � 32.
In the girls' division, the Tanager scorers in field events were: Sarah Mollet, third in shot put; Jaclyn Powell won both the high jump, 5'8", and triple jump with a distance of 33'3". Placing fourth in the high jump, third in the long jump, and second in the triple jump was a very busy Annie Carlson. Lindsay Dunkeson placed fourth in the 300M hurdles.
Results in the dashes were: 200M � Nicole Pederson, third; 400M � Morgan Brooks, first, 1:02.9.
In the long distance runs, Michelle Rasmussen placed second in the 800M, and Megan Griffith claimed fourth in the 1600M.
None of the girls' relay teams gained a scoring place.
The Tanager boys had the following scorers: Shot put � Anthony Senne, fourth; Discus � Tim Brodersen, second, Tim Russell, third; high jump � Paul Tims, second; triple jump � Jared Burcham, third.
In the dashes: 100M � Eddie Filipovic won in 10.9 seconds. He also won the 200M in 22.5, and Dan Tolsma was third. The 400M had Adam Brooks finishing in second. In the 300M hurdles, Josh Kyte came in second.
In the 800M run, Eric Dehner was second. Justin Manning was in third place in the 3200M.
The 4x100M relay team, with members Jared Burcham, Tyler Vacek, Tolsma and Filipovic, came in second. The 4x200M team of Burcham, BJ Reynolds, Kevin Cusick and Vacek also placed second.
