Vermillion, Yankton compete in dual middle school meet

Vermillion, Yankton compete in dual middle school meet Yankton Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade girls held a dual track meet with Vermillion on Tuesday, April 24.

Placers for the seventh-grade girls were:

In field events: Long jump � Megan Epping first, 13'3"; Carrie Christensen third.

In the dashes: 100m � Crystal Coakley first,13.63, Megan Epping second; 400m � Nicole Orr third.

Distance runs: 1600m � Katie Dehner first, 6:42.7. The 4x100m relay team placed second (Epping, Michelle Olson, Meghan Phillips and Coakley); the 4x200m also placed second (Jadee Hofer, Amy Mart, Phillips and Epping); also at second was the 4x400m relay team with members Christensen, Dehner, Patricia Merrigan and Orr.

The eighth-grade girls' scores were:

Field events: Shot put � Melany Porter second; high jump � Anne Carlson first, 4'6"; long jump � Carlson first, 15'2.5".

In the dashes: 100m � Ali Christensen third; 200m � Kelsie Austin second, Ellen Odsen third; 400m � Morgan Brooks first, 1.06.

Distance runs results were: 800m run � Jaime Bernard second; 1600m run � Bernard second, Sarah Plate third.

All the "4x" relay teams finished in second place: 4x100m � Alisha O'Connor, Sarah Christopherson, Ali Christensen and Kelsie Austin; 4x200m � O'Connor, Christopherson, Christensen and Carlson; 4x400m � Brittany Weydert, Mara Johnson, Plate and Brooks.

The first Redbird medley relay team placed second � (Austin, Christensen, Carlson and O'Connor), and the second medley team finished third (Tasia Job, Erin Austin, Christopherson and Weydert).
