VHS baseball team scores 6-1 defeat over Lennox The Vermillion baseball team made a welcome turnaround as they defeated Lennox 6-1 at Prentis Park on Wednesday, April 25 for their second win in the 18-team Sioux Empire Baseball Association league.
Danny Holoch started and pitched four scoreless innings, giving up four hits while registering five strike outs and walking three.
Drew Lawrence relieved in the fifth and was charged with an unearned run but credited with a save as Holoch got the win. The team made no errors until the last batter in the seventh inning and when two passed balls allowed the only run for Lennox.
Lawrence was effective in relief as the Orioles grounded out or flied out for seven of their nine outs during his stint. He struck out the last two batters to close out the game.
The offense was led by Brett Mockler with three for four hits and scoring a run. Lawrence went one for two and had two RBI. Holoch was one for four, driving in one run.
Jeff Gilbertson was zero for three, but walked twice and made the Tanager's final score. Dan Tolsma was on base twice and scored once. BJ Campbell was also on base twice and scored one run.
Josh Kyte went one for one with two walks, scoring once. In the sixth inning, pinch hitters were utilized and contributed three scores, as Dave Hanson drove in a run with a single and scored Kyte's single. Adam Brunick was credited with an RBI also.
Coach Jason Gault was elated with the play in the game.
"Only two errors? I'll take it," he said.
