Alpha Pi state convention will be held in Sioux Falls Eta Chapter of the Alpha Pi State of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will participate in the 43rd state convention to be held at the Oaks Hotel and Convention Center, Sioux Falls, June 8-9 hosted by the Theta chapter.
Brenda Martens, state president, Vermillion, will preside at the business sessions with an executive board meeting on Friday evening and the general business meeting on Saturday.
"Taking Flight with Literacy" is the convention theme in conjunction with the state project "Literacy for All." Chapters will display posters on the state project, scrapbooks will be on display with chapters' activities for the year. A juried art exhibition, "Women in Art," will be sponsored for the purpose to honor members for creative expression in the visual and written arts.
An inspirational breakfast will be held Saturday morning followed by a ceremony of remembrance with Eta's chapter member Lydia Bartling to be remembered.
The birthday luncheon will be held Saturday to celebrate the 72nd birthday of Alpha Pi State. State founder Dr. Marjorie Beaty will be honored along with past state presidents. State Communications Chairman Lynette Molstad will present awards for the newsletter and scrapbooks awards.
Scholarship winners will be announced and first-time convention goers will be presented certificates of attendance. A Founder's Day Program will be presented under the direction of Ruth Anderson, Brookings.
The presidents' banquet will be held with the installation of new officers to serve for 2001-2003. Chapter presidents will be honored with a presidents' march in their honor. The highlight of the evening will be the featured speaker, Karen Duke, international program chairman, Austin, TX.
Attending from Eta chapter will be Dr. Maurine Richardson, president of Eta chapter, Janet Hoff, state corresponding secretary, Mary Geffre Johnson, state historian, and State President Martens.
