Beresford Legion toppled by Vermillion's Post #1 The Vermillion Legion Post #1 baseball team improved their early season record to 4-1 with an overpowering 9-1 victory over Beresford Legion Post #72 in the opening home game played June 5 at Prentis Park.
Drew Lawrence started and pitched four scoreless innings, giving up one hit while registering six strike outs and walking one, getting credit for the win.
Dan Holoch took over for the remaining innings and also had six K's, walked three, and was charged with the unearned run when a temporary lapse of concentration brought about the only three errors committed by Vermillion in the game the only blemish on a great pitching performance by the duo.
Line scores: Vermillion 9 runs, 9 hits, 3 errors; Beresford 1 run, 1 hit, 4 errors.
The offense was led by Dan Tolsma who was on base three times and scored three runs. Ryan Nelson went one for two, scored one run and one RBI. Pat Brooks was one for four, scoring one run.
Tyler Vacek, in a designated batter's role, scored twice, going one for four driving in one. Brett Mockler went one for three, scoring twice and had one RBI. Tim Brodersen drove in a run with his one for four hit for the final score.
