Fun, food, fireworks planned for Vermillion's Fourth of July celebration Vermillion's Independence Day celebration, scheduled for Wednesday, July 4, will focus on fun, food and fireworks.
The public is invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to Barstow Park at 5 p.m. to participate in a variety of activities.
Entertainment planned for the evening includes bingo starting at 5 p.m., and a performance by the barbershop quartet Harmony Expedition at 5:30 p.m.
Oliver Greenwood, a roaming juggler and magician, will entertain people throughout the park.
Music fans will also enjoy the songs of Gate Cut. The country western band, sponsored by CorTrust Bank, is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m.
A presentation of the stars and stripes will be made by an honor guard made up of members of the 323 Chemical Company, Detachment 1, U.S. Army Reserves.
Games for both young and old will include an inflatable castle, bingo, mini-golf, face painting, temporary tattoos, radar soccer, balloons and glow in the dark necklaces.
Concession booths will be present in the park to provide both food and drink. Tacos will be served by Recuerdo's, and taverns and hot dogs will be offered by the youth of St. Agnes Church.
Hy-Vee will serve rootbeer floats, and True Value Hardware will provide snow cones.
A beer garden will be hosted by the Eagles Club.
Independence Day will be celebrated with a traditional fireworks display at dusk. The fireworks are sponsored by local businesses and the Vermillion Fire Department.
