Highway construction season is here A map released this week by the South Dakota Department of Transportation showing the status of highway projects in the state clearly indicates that road construction season has arrived.
A project of great interest to Vermillion residents is the construction of five miles of South Dakota Highway 19 from Vermillion south to the Missouri River.
The project will include bridge, grading and asphalt concrete surfacing. It will be closed to traffic, and it is expected to be completed by Nov. 1.
Construction is also under way on a 10.4 mile section of Interstate 29, from Junction City near Vermillion north. The project will be completed in mid-August, and includes paving, bridge deck overlays and guardrails.
